William Raymond Wood

Dad (1)

William Raymond Wood “Woody” 74, Of Olathe, Kansas passed away on September 15, 2022 peacefully at the Olathe Hospice House surrounded by family.

He was born on July 7, 1948 in Atchison, Kansas to William J and Shirley J Wood (Bryant).

After graduating high school he joined the Marines and was stationed in San Diego, California. His stay was short as he injured his knee in bootcamp and received honorable discharge. Upon his return home, Woody worked at the Gas Service Company, the company underwent several name changes throughout his employment and after 36 years he retired from Kansas gas as a serviceman.

Woody loved tinkering on cars and trucks and going to car lots looking at and “kicking the tires” as he put it. He also enjoyed going to antique malls, estate sales, farm auctions, but most of all he loved being around his family. He was incredibly proud of his two children; Scott and his Moe Baby, Morgan. As well as his two grandbabies Kaylee Nikole and Layla Louise. He loved being their poppy and going to their events.

Woody had some very special life changing events, when his son Scott got married to Lindsey Lou and eventually made him a grandparent. Most recently he was blessed to be healthy enough to walk his Moe baby down the aisle and dance the father daughter dance at her wedding.

Woody had a gift of gab as well as a quirky sense of humor and the ability to talk to anyone and make them laugh. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his one liners, “ the lights not going to get any greener even if you water it, so just go ahead and go”. His love of cars and trucks and all Chrysler and Mopar products.

Our family would like to send out a warm thank you to all his nurses, doctors, and everyone at KU hospital and the Cancer center Westwood campus where he received treatment, for the incredible care, love and friendship and respect they gave to Bill.

Our special goes out to his oncologist Dr. Anwaar Saeed, she is truly God’s working angel here on earth and so much more than a doctor.

Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years Carole (Coones) of the home, son Scott (Lindsey) Wood of Wellsville, KS. Daughter Morgan (Jon) Quick of Stilwell, KS. Two granddaughters Kaylee and Layla Wood of Wellsville, KS. His much loved Great Dane: Kashie and little Rye Rye.

We love you Bill and Dad and we’ll miss you everyday. We know you are at peace and pain free and no longer suffering and are probably shopping the antique malls and car lots of heaven.

We love you Billy Boy and Dad.
