William R. “Bill” Hale
William R. “Bill” Hale, born in Mankato, Kansas, who raised his family and lived his life in Topeka, Kansas, passed away on October 31, 2013, just two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. He lived a full life attending K-State, working as an architect, serving as the Kansas State Architect and was Kansas AIA President. He served in the US Army Air Corps. He was an active member of United Methodist Church in Topeka and was a fixture at the Shawnee Country Club on the golf course. He was an Elk and was active in the 20/30 Club. Della Kathleen (Petterson), mother of his children, with whom he enjoyed 51 years of marriage; and Jane Schirmer, with whom he enjoyed a sweet, but too short, marriage; predeceased him. He is survived by: his three sisters, Betty Jean Johnson of Overland Park, KS; Pat Scoggan and Beverly Beardmore, both of West Sun City, AZ.; his three children: Susan Greve and her husband, Thurston Watts of Grandview, MO, Martin Hale and his wife Patty of Topeka, and Cynthia Hale and her husband, Luis Mata of Overland Park; his five grandchildren: Chad Hale of Topeka, Lindsey Bray, Lenexa, KS, and Teresa Mata, Carlos Mata, and Daniella Mata of Overland Park; and his two great grandchildren, MacKenzie and Madison Hale of Topeka. Memorial service to be held at 5:30 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Lowman Methodist Church, 15th and Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice.
