William Donald Smith

William Donald Smith age 88 of Overland Park, KS passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at Hospice House in Kansas City, MO surrounded by his family. He was born January 6, 1934 to Carmie Hess & Benjamin Smith in the family home outside Harrisburg, IL. Donald, youngest of 9 children, was united in marriage to Winnie Ruth Baker March 14, 1952 and to this union three children were born. He was proud of his 42 year Mobil Oil Corporation career which spanned roles from Detroit, Michigan as a fuel truck driver, to his final position as Maintenance Supervisor in Kansas City, KS. Don loved trout fishing with his buddies, spending time at Shawnee Mission Park Lake, ALL the old western movies, Zane Grey books and the compliments he received when he made his famous biscuits and gravy and buttermilk pancakes. Don is survived by his wife of 70 years, Winnie Ruth and his children Steven Michael and wife Sandie of Watertown, WI; William Paul and wife Jackie of Shawnee, KS; Lori Anne Andrews and husband Dale of Middletown, MD; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two great, great-grandchildren, loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his parent in-laws, siblings and many close friends.

Your passing will surely be felt in the hearts of everyone that ever knew you. You were a wonderful, kind, gentle man, and lastly a great father-in-law. I was blessed to have known you and will cherish the wonder times and conversations with had. You shall be missed but never forgotten – Your favorite son-in-law. Sorry for your loss Paul and Jackie. I always enjoyed being around your Dad. He was a very kind person and I know your family will greatly miss him. Prayers that you will find comfort and peace in your memories of him.

Sad to hear of Bill’s passing. It was a real pleasure to work along side Bill at Mobil for over 3 decades. I’ll always have pleasant memories of a good buddy! Rest in peace good friend.
Uncle Don was my last living uncle on my dads side of the family. He and my father were so similar in looks. Unc was one of my favorite people. He will be missed by many ❤️
