William Dale Hunter
William Dale Hunter of Overland Park, KS graduated to Heaven on Thursday, March 26th at the Kansas City Hospice House.
He was born October 3, 1932 to parents William B. Hunter and Beatrice Collier Hunter in Shreveport, LA. They had two boys, William Dale and Charles Edward.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Dorothy; four children, Shirley (Tim) Westmark, Steven (DeAnn) Hunter, Susan (Edward) Satterlee, and Sonya MacNicol; eight grandchildren, Keri Westmark, Brandon (Renee) Westmark, JD (Danielle) Westmark, Nathanael (Susanna) Satterlee, Nicole Satterlee, Teckla Satterlee, Jessica (Josh) Spotz, and Christiana MacNicol; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Dale met Dorothy while attending college at Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) and it was love at first sight. After he completed college, they moved to Overland Park where they lived most of their years. He enjoyed bringing creativity and hands-on experiences while teaching and spent the majority of his working years as a teacher at Hickory Grove Elementary. Dale never knew a stranger. His real love was his family as well as his church family. He served many years on the church board for Central Church of the Nazarene and was always willing to work wherever there was a need. When he was out of school during the summer months, it would not be uncommon for him to drop by to pick up the grandkids for the afternoon. He would take them to housing developments so they could see how houses were built or maybe teach them how to ride a city bus with a trip to Crown Center. The parents never knew what interesting things he had planned until the grandkids returned home. He will be greatly missed.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, there will be a celebration of life service at a future date at Central Church of the Nazarene.
