Shirley Jean Larson
Shirley Jean Larson, 91 years of age, Roeland Park, KS formerly of Jamestown, KS and Concordia, KS passed peacefully, Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Delmar Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
Interment will be at Ada Lutheran Church Cemetery, Courtland, KS on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Memorial service will be conducted at 11 am, outdoors weather permitting. Visitation will not be publicly held.
Shirley Jean Larson, born January 24, 1931 to Samuel and Aurea Lehman, Wathena KS. Shirley graduated from Wathena High School. Having received her Associate Degree in Teaching, Highland Community College quickly recruited her into the Jamestown, Kansas School district requiring Shirley to find housing in the Jamestown area. Shortly thereafter fate intervened and Shirley met her dream boat, “The Sweet Swede”, Darrell G. Larson. The first time Darrel laid eyes on Shirley came from her picture in the paper where they had announced the new teachers for the School Year. He told his mom, “I’m going to marry her”.
On July 29, 1953 Shirley Lehman wed Darrell Larson in the Zion United Methodist Church, Wathena, KS. Appropriately that day, July 29th, is still one of the “Highest Temperature’s Recorded” in Doniphan County KS. Shirley and Darrell brought two children into the world, Candyce Jean and Del Gene.
Shirley was a member of the Ada Lutheran Church and a Board member many years. She loved serving as Service Chairman to the Church for over 25 years. Shirley stayed involved with all events held at the Church. She was a member of the Beaver EHU for 50 years plus, served as President and held any vacant office needing a volunteer. Shirley loved cooking and entertaining, gardening, Coffee at Kristy’s with her Coffee Girlfriends, vacationing in Minnesota, shopping, and watching her grandchildren grow.
Shirley is survived by her Daughter, Candyce (Larry Smith) Roeland Park, KS and Son, Del Larson of Elgin, Nebraska.
Grandchildren, Kit Carson Larson, Denver CO, Jeremiah Johnson Larson, Jamestown, KS, Gunnar Gene Smith (Caitlin) Overland Park, KS, Hunter T Smith (Abbey) Sacramento, CA and Bethany Grace Miller (Brandon) Elgin, Nebraska. Great Grandchildren, Gemma, Kinley, Charles and Sloane Miller of Elgin, NE. Finn, Faye and Lila Raye Smith of Overland Park, KS. Nephews, David Stokes (Judy) Bella Vista, Arkansas and Mark Stokes, Formoso, KS.
Shirley was preceded in death by; Husband, Darrell Larson; Brother, Clarence Lehman; Sister Virginia Stokes and Brother-in-law Robert Stokes; Grandsons, Travor Gene Smith and Forrest Sterling Smith; Niece Gina Stokes and Nephew Darren Stokes; Daughter -in-law Jo (Josephine) Larson. Grand puppies, Farah, Breezy, Missy, Blue and Dirk.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
