He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1973 and proceeded to become bank examiner. He traveled around Nebraska and Kansas as a bank examiner. He found a position that landed him in Wichita, KS. Ron met his future wife, Linda (Stelling) Eilers in the summer of 1976 and quickly knew, this was the love of his life. He proposed to her on Mother’s Day of 1977 and they were married on August 7th, 1977 in the Unity Church in Wichita, KS. Ron spent over 30 years working for State Bank of Colwich, later renamed Legacy Bank, as a banker, serving in various roles within the bank retiring in 2010 to spend more time with his wife, being engaged within the community, and spending time with his grandkids.
Ron had “Big Red blood throughout his entire body,” as he once stated. He was an avid Husker fan all his life. In 1984, Ron helped found the Kansas Cornhusker Club in Wichita and was the Treasurer, Vice-President and President for many years. The statement, “Once a Husker, always a Husker,” was something he lived by. Upon retirement, Ron became active within the West Wichita Optimist Club until moving to Overland Park, KS in the summer of 2017. Ron became engaged with the senior communities he lived in, taking pride within the organization of their libraries, and donating a variety of books. He was an ambassador for the community and was always welcoming to new residents, attempting to find connections with each individual.
Ron is survived by his daughter Lisa and spouse Chris Coonts, and 2 grandchildren, Lyla and Miles of Olathe, KS. He is also survived by his Aunt Lois Johnson of Colorado and many cousins on his Mom’s side of the family. Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Linda Eilers, in 2018.
