Richard A. Zankel Sr.
Jesus has rejoiced in welcoming home his son, Richard A. Zankel Sr. on Thursday, May 13, 2010. He passed peacefully to heaven at home surrounded by his family. Rich, as he was affectionately known, was born on January 24, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Zankel and his father Eugene Willig.
Rich found comfort and faith in his walk through life with in his savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. He truly loved his family and all of the friends he got to know over the years. He was an avid pilot and absolutely loved flying. He had a passion for cooking and then eating his creations. Those who knew him learned that he felt most at home in the country taking care of his animals, tending to his land and riding his John Deere tractor. He thought a lot about of moving to Montana where he wanted retire, but he never quite found the right “deal”.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shawn Zankel, son Rick Zankel, daughter Kathy Tiller, Grandsons Nathan Zankel and Raymond Tiller, sister-in-law Sheri Meeks, and brothers-in-law Brian and Robert Deming. He has many nieces and nephews that he cherished and loved as his own children.
Throughout his life he overcame many accomplishments, yet one he was most proud of was being a United States Marine.
We will never forget him for he has slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to American Center for Liberty and Justice, https://www.aclj.org/Donate/Default.aspx?sc=3585&ac=1&Zip=*Zip
