Ray T. Vaughn

Ray T. Vaughn, 67, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed on September 7, 2013 at his home.  Ray was born June 26, 1946 in Kansas City, MO, to James and Lorene Vaughn.  He graduated from Bonner Springs High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University in 1968 after which he served in the U. S. Army.  Ray and Karen met as freshmen at ESU and married June 14, 1969, sharing 44 years of marriage and raising their son, Robert. Ray retired from Farmer’s Insurance Group after 35 years, the last 11 years with the Catastrophe Response Team.

On a nice day, Ray could be found playing golf and sharing laughs with his buddies or driving his classic ’56 Corvette.  Ray loved good friends, good food, and good music; classic cars and classic movies; the Chiefs and KU basketball; traveling and cruising; tinkering in his shop; and spending time with “the bug”, Cole.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Karen, and son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Melissa, and grandson, Cole.  Also surviving are his brother, Gary, and four nieces and nephews and their families.

Friends are invited to gather with the family to celebrate Ray’s life and share memories and merriment on Wednesday, September 11 from 5:30 to 7 pm at Dark Horse Distillery, 11740 West 86th Terrace, Lenexa, KS  66215.  There will be a private memorial service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or American Cancer Society.
