Phyllis Loree Cornwell

Phyllis Loree Cornwell went home to Jesus on October 9, 2021 at age 87. Service will be held at Maywood Community Church, 11201 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS on Thursday October 28th at 4:00 pm.  

Phyllis was born to Orville Keith Miller and Sarah Mary Bachman Miller on August 8, 1934 in Otterville, IA. 

Phyllis met her husband, Frank Edward Cornwell while they were in high school together. They married June 7, 1952 and went on to have 5 daughters. Phyllis and her husband resided in Independence, Iowa until 1986 when they relocated to the Kansas City area.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Phyllis also loved camping, fishing, gardening, reading, sewing, knitting, bowling, cheering on her beloved University of Kansas Basketball team and the art of paying it forward. She was a dedicated homemaker, teacher, daycare provider, and community volunteer. She and her husband were partners in Cornwell Masonry for many years. 

 Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.  She was an elder in her church, bible study leader, Sunday school teacher, and vocal advocate for her church. She has been active in the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, IA, Community Covenant Church in Lenexa, KS and most recently attended Maywood Community Church in Kansas City, KS.

Phyllis joins her parents Orville and Sarah Miller, her mother-in-law Margaret Cornwell, her father-in-law Ralph Cornwell, her brothers Keith Miller, Howard Miller and Charles Miller in Heaven.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Frank Edward Cornwell, her brother Maurice Miller, and her daughters, Brenda (Rick) Freebern of Overland Park, KS, Becky Brinson of Tallahassee FL, Debra (Perry) Kiler of Olathe, KS, Carolyn (Mike) Junk of Hudson IA, and Jane (Edwin) Alft of Kansas City, KS. She was a devoted grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and eagerly anticipating another great grandchild who were all the light of her life.

Memorial Contributions 

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial donations be sent to Cremation Center of Kansas City, 4926 Johnson Drive, Roeland Park, KS 66205 for memorials in her name that the family will present to Maywood Community Church and Olathe Health Hospice House.

    Love and blessings to all of you. Phyliss was a great gal and very dedicated Christian. She was in my Bible Study on Thursday mornings at Communitiy Covenant Church for several years.
