Patricia Kaye Howe

Patricia Kaye Howe, 66 of Overland Park, Kansas, lost her battle to cancer on Wednesday, May 9, at the Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM at the Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th St., Overland Park, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

Kaye was born March 19, 1946 to Ed and Margaret Gorman of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She attended Mt. Vernon schools and Saint Mary University before graduating from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield where she was active in the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, Who’s Who and Student Government. Kaye married M.L. “Bud” Cale on March 22, 1969. They later divorced. She married Gerald Howe on August 28, 2004.

Kaye used her accounting degree to work for IRS in Kansas City and FHA in St. Louis before staying at home to care for her sons. Her second career in real estate was in Wichita and with major developers in Johnson County.

Kaye’s flamboyant style and wit made every event a party. She loved entertaining in the magazine-worthy homes she created, traveling with friends and family, shopping and all things KU. She was active in various women’s golf associations and lunching out groups.

She is survived by her husband Gerald, her sons Brett Cale, Shawnee, and Brandon Cale, Kansas City, Missouri, her sister Marilyn (Paul) Barsi, Plover, Wisconsin, her brother John Gorman, Dallas, Texas and Jerry’s children Jacci (Steve) Gunn, Salt Lake City, Utah, Gerald Howe II, Kankakee, Illinois and Brian Howe, Hunters Crossing, Michigan. She was greatly loved by her nieces and nephews.

Kaye’s exuberant personality, sense of humor and flair for fashion will be sadly missed.

Kaye and I were sorority sisters at MSU and lived together our senior year. I couldn’t count the number of bridge games we played..she and I and
Bonnie Myers and my now husband Jerry. We didn’t keep in touch after college but I know she continued to be a wonderful, fun loving person. I am sorry we lost her at such a young age.

I just now found out that Kaye passed away due to cancer. Kaye was a friend. I met her when she attended St. Mary College, freshman year. She came back for a reunion several years ago. She seemed so much the same – fun, friendly, and full of spunk. I am so sorry that you have lost Kaye at such a young age. She was just wonderful. My prayers are with you, her family.

We heard from Bud Cale very recently. He and Kaye and Tom and I were great friends in our teenage years and early marriage. (Kaye was a sorority sister and my maid-of-honor.) As things go, we lost touch, but never forgot Kaye and Bud and Brandon and Brett. Why we didn’t try to reconnect, I don’t know. I have no excuse. It’s always something one regrets, especially when an old friend dies.

Kaye was just as the obituary describes…so much fun and full of life. She had a big personality, and was beautiful inside and out.

When I remember Kaye, I always see her first thing in the morning in our room at the sorority house. She’d get herself a Coke, get back into bed, and light up a cigarette. I’ll always see her that way, and hear her deep, thoarty laugh, and see her enormous smile. There was no one quite like her, then or since. She loved life and lived it to its fullest! We should all take a lesson from her example.

I am so very sorry. She was such a delightful gal and so much fun. She wrote my “letter of recommend” many years ago that allowed me to become a Realtor!! She was a special friend! May God bless and comfort Jerry and boys!

I have always known Kaye Gorman. We reunited when our sons were
    e

Kaye entered my life when I was only about 5 years old. She was one of the “little Gorman girls” and lived across the street from one of my aunts in Mt. Vernon, Mo. We had a bit of a reunion when our sons were Delta Chis at K.U. It was a hoot.

My thoughts are certainly with Brett and Popper and I know you’ll miss her terribly.

    Love and prayers

What heavy hearts all have who knew and loved Kaye. Such a special lady. To Brandon and Brett who grew up with my daughter,Stacie,in Wichita, Ks., wishing only the best for you. Kaye sold me the property I spend my life teaching and training gymnastics and fitness, Acrobatic Academy Fitness and Education Center, Inc. on. Her zip for life I now see everyday in all these children.

It’s difficult to process the fact that Kaye was fine one day and gone almost the next. Cancer is so powerful that it not only takes the life it intrudes on but hurts family and loved ones in a sad and misunderstood way. I pray for you — Jerry, Brett, Brandon, Marilyn and John — that you will be comforted and strengthened in your loss.

I moved from Kansas city 6 years ago but reminisce the few wonderful years I knew Kaye. We went to events and places and shared lots of laughs and good times with our little gal group. Many times I visited her at her beautiful open houses – just for a coke and a chat. It always amazed me how she had the talent to find some insignificant piece of fabric or trinket on a clearance table, bring it home and make something wonderful for her home. Her love for life, flair for style and contagious laugh will be with me a long time. Rest in peace, my friend.
