Vesta Faye York, fondly known as "Nana," passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 8, 2024, in Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 96. Born on December 28, 1927, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Vesta graced the world with her creative talent, unwavering faith, and loving spirit.
Vesta found great joy and pride in her work as a decorator, where she dedicated her career to transforming her clients' homes into beautiful sanctuaries. Her passion did not end at her professional life; she also delighted in painting and gardening, always finding ways to bring beauty into every space she touched.
A lifetime member of Village Presbyterian Church, Vesta was deeply committed to her faith community. For over 40 years, she enriched the lives of many as a Sunday School teacher, imparting wisdom and faith to generations. Additionally, she shared her artistic talents by moderating a watercolor class at the church, fostering creativity and fellowship among her peers.
Vesta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald J. York, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents, Beula and Alvin Deason, and her brothers, Tom Deason and Gary Deason.
She is survived by her loving sons, Kevin York and his wife Patti York, and Korey York and his wife Lorrie York. Her legacy continues through her cherished granddaughter, Taylor York Spencer, and her husband Jake Spencer. Vesta is also survived by her dear sister, Jan Ernst, along with numerous friends and extended family who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Vesta Faye York will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, located at 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS, at 3:30 p.m. on September 28, 2024. Family and friends are invited to gather and commemorate the beautiful life of a woman who touched so many with her kindness, creativity, and unyielding faith.
