Obituary

Trudy Hasse Nepstad ran her last race and finished on July 25, 2023. Trudy was born on March 2, 1931 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Her parents were Merten and Gladys Hasse. She graduated from the University of South Dakota and was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Trudy was Homecoming Queen at USD in 1952. Trudy taught art at Indian Hills Junior High and later was in food sales. Both of these endeavors allowed Trudy to use her patience and charm. Trudy had many passions. She was a talented painter, a whiz at designing and sewing things such as her famous neck sox, and an advocate for many good liberal causes. She traveled adventurously to all seven continents and over 100 countries. As a runner, she trained for and completed races and marathons around the U. S. and a few overseas. She won the Kansas City Women's Intersport Network (WIN) award for her dedication to women in sports. Trudy enjoyed an amazing network of friends who were especially helpful during her last months. She loved to entertain, whether hosting international visitors, book and movie clubs, and perhaps most memorably, putting on an annual May 17th Norwegian Constitution Day not only to celebrate her heritage, but also because it was a great excuse for a big blowout. You had to be there! Survivors include her three sons, David Nepstad (Paula Kahmann), Jon Nepstad (Lilla), Thomas Nepstad (Aniez), seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters, and too many dear and caring friends near and far to count. And her faithful cat, Alice. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ann. Trudy cared deeply about the well-being of others. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your choice of Doctors Without Borders https://donate. doctorswithoutborders. org/secure/donate , Wayside Waifs https://waysidewaifs. org/donate/ , or the Flint Hills Discovery Foundation https://www. flinthillsdiscovery. org/211/Give or a meaningful charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held later in the year.
