Susan Griffin, a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit touched all who knew her, passed away on July 4, 2025, in Shawnee, Kansas, at the age of 72. Born on October 22, 1952, in Houston, Texas, Susan lived a life filled with creativity, love, and inspiration.

Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana, Susan thrived in a lively household where she enjoyed playing sports and cards with her family. Her adventurous spirit led her to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1970, where she built a life full of both personal and professional accomplishments. She was the proud owner of Arlington's beloved Joy Gifts in the 1980s and later found joy in co-owning The Closet Store in Jacksonville with her son, Brent. Her career spanned various roles in sales, including specialty advertising, furniture, and closet design, showcasing her versatility and entrepreneurial spirit.

Susan’s true passion extended beyond her work; she was an immensely creative soul who loved making crafts of all kinds. Friends and family often marveled at her ability to transform simple materials into beautiful works of art. An enthusiastic racquetball player, Susan formed lifelong friendships on and off the court. She was the life of the party, whether that party included playing cards, dancing, or visiting casinos.

Her role as a mother and grandmother brought her immense joy. Susan cherished every moment spent with her daughter Joy, son Brent, and her beloved grandchildren, Mason, Kyle, and Cambria. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, delicious food, and Susan’s unyielding love.

In 2021, Susan retired and moved to Shawnee, Kansas, to be closer to her daughter Joy and grandchildren. She relished the precious time spent with them, crafting memories that will be cherished forever. In 2023, Susan faced a brave battle with cancer, demonstrating remarkable resilience and grace.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Erline and James (Jim) August. She leaves behind a devoted family who will continue to honor her legacy: her daughter Joy Thomas and husband John, son Brent Griffin and wife Jessica, her adored grandchildren Mason, Kyle, and Cambria, her brother Robert (Bobby) August and his family, and her sister Debbie Kulesza and her family.

Her life will be celebrated during an Open House Celebration of Life at Mudville Grille in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 9, 2025, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Susan's memory are encouraged to share a craft with someone they love, as a tribute to her boundless creativity and generous spirit.
