Obituary

Stuart Wayne Smith, age 87, passed away at his home in Mission, KS, on May 13, 2023, following a six-week illness. He joined the army at age 19 and served with the 265th Field Artillary Battalion in Germany. He was awarded the marksman (carbine) and sharpshooter (rifle) medals along with Army of Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before being discharged October 1956. He was self-employed as a Manufacturer's Representative for over 20 years until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed tennis in his younger years, adding duck and pheasant hunting and golf in the middle years, and playing cards and cribbage with friends in the later years, and always, fishing, mostly for bass, crappie, and walleye. Let's not forget his love of college basketball, following his alma mater, KU, and even attending many Final Four tournaments. He is survived by his wife Sandra, son Todd (Jenny) Smith, grandson Josh Smith, granddaughters Jordan Smith and McKenna Smith, Stepsons Ken Claypool and Scott (Jen) CLaypool, step grandchildren, Katie Claypool and Coby Claypool, nieces Cheri (Joe) Loar and Marcia (Joe) Clements, and nephew Steve Zeigler. He was ready to leave this life peacefully and curious as to what comes next, looking forward to seeing his parents Stanley and Selma Smith, his sister Sue Pringle, his daughter Stephanie Smith, the many friends who have already passed and the "best dog ever," Sadie May. Stu, you are missed by those you left behind - Rest in Peace
