Stephen Eugene Winkleman, Jr. (Steve) passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023, surrounded by his mother and three daughters. He was born on September 26, 1958, to Stephen E. Winkelman, Sr and Joan Winkelman in Pratt, KS. He spent much of his childhood in Salina, after which he attended the University of Kansas and eventually settled down in Wichita. Most recently he made the move to Overland Park to be near his family. An avid sports fan, Steve bled crimson and blue – and his wardrobe was a collection of the most comfortable Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs sweatpants. But his passion for sports didn't stop at the collegiate or professional level. Aside from being glued to the TV for March Madness and the Masters, Steve was the ultimate coach and cheerleader both on and off the fields and courts for his girls; and in recent years, his grandchildren. He loved being outdoors – working in his yard and garden, golfing or relaxing on his patio. Steve also had one of the most impressive spice cabinets – a true love for creating and sharing in the kitchen (or from the grill). There wasn't a family member or friend who left his house with an empty stomach. Steve was a force of nature with his capable ways and brilliant mind. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and spent much of his spare time researching topics of interest or reading books. His family will always remember him for his quick wit and his eloquent way with words. Steve is survived and missed by his mother, Joan; and his daughters, Jamie Gomez (Chris), Megan Knoblauch (Luke), and Katie Kantor (Brian). Forever remembered as Grandpa Steve by his seven grandchildren, Max & Sam Gomez, Benjamin, Samantha & Thomas Knoblauch, and Collins & Austin Kantor. He is preceded in death by his father Stephen.
