Obituary

With profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Shirley Jean (Clegg) Dieker, who departed this world on December 25, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on August 19, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas, Shirley's journey ended peacefully in Kansas City, Missouri, due to complications from Graft Versus Host Disease following two bone marrow transplants.

Shirley was a guiding light and an inspiration to everyone she encountered. Her career in Information Technology as a Manager and Director across various organizations, including Farm Credit Banks, Newman University, Fidelity Bank, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas, left an indelible mark. She was a force of innovation and leadership, celebrated for her dedication, professionalism, and excellence. She made many life-long friends among her co-workers.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shirley's life was colorful and filled with love. Passionate about bears, shoes, chocolates, shopping, red wine, and reading, she cherished her family, friends, and adventures around the globe. A devoted dance mom, soccer mom, and room parent, Shirley enriched the lives of many children and served as part of a Big Couple to a Little Brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Her heart belonged to Wichita and Wichita State University, where she avidly supported Shocker athletics and the Wichita Wings Soccer team. Shirley adored baking, celebrating birthdays, and the joy of Christmas with her family.

Shirley was a proud member of Alpha Phi Sorority (Gamma Xi Chapter), Little Sisters of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and the Girl Scouts of America, where she both participated and volunteered. Her long-standing commitment to Dawson United Methodist Church as a member, choir member, soloist, Sunday School teacher, officer, and volunteer spoke to her generous spirit. Shirley also served as an Alpha Phi Alumni officer, board member, volunteer, and adviser. Her accolades, including the Alpha Phi Sorority Michaelanean Award, Sigma Phi Epsilon Kansas Eta Chapter Sweetheart, Wichita State University Dottie C. Miller Award, Girl Scouts of the Golden Plains Volunteer of Excellence Award, Girl Scouts of the Golden Plains Treasured Time Award, and Wichita State University Fairmount Founders Award, are a testament to her remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication.

Preceded in death by her father, Thomas C. Clegg, her brother, Donald J. Clegg, and her nephew, Anthony Clegg, Shirley leaves behind a rich legacy carried forward by her loving family. Surviving her are her mother, Neomia B. Clegg; devoted husband, Denis H. Dieker; son, Joseph H. Dieker; daughter-in-law, Alyson Dieker; daughter, Margaret J. McGuffey; son-in-law, Kyle McGuffey; brother, Roger T. Clegg; sister-in-law, Marcella Clegg; her cherished grandchildren, Thomas H. Dieker, Louis M. Dieker, and Francesca J. McGuffey, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who have been the recipients Aunt Shirley's radiant smile and endless love.

In remembering Shirley, we honor a woman whose life was a tapestry of kindness, joy, and unwavering love. Services will be filled with tears, laughter, and perhaps a toast or two with some good red wine. Shirley was kind and loving, giving greatly and receiving love in return. She will be greatly missed but her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her smile and love will remain in our hearts forever.
