Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) S. Thomas, 79, at home peacefully on March 4, 2026, is on a great adventure to meet her heavenly father.

Sandy was born on May 22, 1946, in Salina, KS. To Emma & Louis Baker.

Sandy will be remembered for her beautiful heart. Sandy loved her family, animals, and never met a stranger she did not help if needed. She sewed and crocheted beautiful dolls and items for others. She attended school in Salina, KS, and in St. Louis, MO. At 17 years old, in the fall of 1963, she met the Love of her life, Robert (Bob) Lee Thomas, and they married on February 6, 1965.

Sandy was preceded in Death by her parents in 1973 & 1997. In 1999, husband Bob, 1965, an infant baby boy, and in 1969, an infant baby girl twin, Roberta. In 2018, the oldest daughter, Laura Sue Thomas Nichols, her grandchildren, 2012 Heather L., 2024 David F. Thomas, 2018 Kara L. Deatherage, and one infant great-great-grandchild.

Sandy is survived by her sister & husband, Mamie, Jim Bailey, nieceStephanie, Nephew Todd Bailey of Olathe, KS., Her Daughter Barbara Ornder, Gulf Breeze, Fla. Her sister-in-law, Barbara Hicks Sheldon, MO. Grandchildren Kenny Ornder Gulf Breeze, Fla., Veronica Oliver and Kimberly Deatherage in Nowata, OK., 15 Great-Great GrandChildren.

Sandy will be missed by all of those left behind and a countless number of friends and especially her dear friends that were her caregivers, Vicki Hammers and partner, Billy Carter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Sandy’s memory. Sandy was cremated and will be laid to rest at a later date at a private burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS, with her hero husband Bob, a 4-time Vietnam Veteran.
