Our loving mother and grandmother, Rose Svoboda, 99, of Overland Park peacefully passed away December 26, 2023. She was born to the late Harry and Mary Maas, October 25,1924 in Kansas City, KS. After graduating from Bishop Ward High School in 1942, Rose worked at the North American Aviation Plant in the Army Office where a co-worker introduced her and her future husband Lloyd Svoboda whom she married in 1947. Rose is survived by five children: Larry (Chris) of Westfield, NJ; Cathy Richardson of Overland Park; Bob (Mary Lynn) of Lenexa; Susan (Ken) Gerhart of Reno, NV; Tom (Kathy) of Lenexa. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd Svoboda in 1992.

As a gifted seamstress and quilter, she made beautiful clothes and many keepsake quilts throughout her lifetime. Rose enjoyed playing in several bridge groups regularly. Her passion for baking could satisfy the sweet tooth in anyone. St. Agnes Altar Society benefited by Rose's continued volunteer work and support in the community. Rose and Lloyd indulged their love of travel by taking many cross country family road trips and later, the two expanded their travels internationally. Rose was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind many beautiful memories. She often said, "The days of the Depression never left me. I never wanted great wealth, just enough that I would not have to worry about being comfortable."

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 10am, a rosary will follow at 10:30am, and funeral mass at 11am all at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS. A light lunch will follow the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to American Diabetes Association or Faith Home Health and Hospice.
