Obituary

Roger Lewis Bailey passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 75.

He was born in Grand Island, NE August 18, 1948 to William and Addie (Gibson) Bailey. Roger grew up in St. Paul, NE, attended St. Paul Public Schools, graduated in 1966.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country from August 17, 1966 thru May 21, 1969. Roger was a Navy Corpsman stationed at Jacksonville Naval Air Station as well as at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. Roger had a deep sense of duty and patriotism.

He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Paul. He belonged to Moose Lodge #1999 of Kansas City, KS and Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119, St. Paul, for over 50 years.

Roger was a natural salesman. He spent his working career in the car business and later working for Universal Underwriters, insuring auto and implement dealerships.

Roger's life was full of meaningful connections and cherished friendships. He had a quick wit, adventurous stories, and the funniest one-liners. His knowledge spanned over many subjects. He was intelligent, curious and wanted to learn something new everyday.

One of Roger's greatest passions was the lake, particularly Lake McConaughy. He spent countless hours with his loved ones, fishing, boating, and jet skiing, and building bonfires on the sandy beaches. He enjoyed the tranquility of nature and the waters, each trip a reflection to his love of life and adventure.

Roger's spirit lives on in the hearts of those he held most dear. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and his cherished partner, Luann Kizer. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, treasured by his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Trevor Nebesniak of Lincoln, NE, along with five adoring grandchildren: Alexis Nebesniak of Denver, CO, and Lainey (Jeremy) Miller, Ryder, Griffin, and Darby Nebesniak and his two great-grandsons, Jett and Henry Miller of Lincoln, as well as his beloved sister, Peggy (Rick) Case of Papillion, NE.

As we reflect on Roger's life, we are reminded of the profound love he held for his family. They were the light of his life, bringing him so much happiness and comfort. He loved sharing his stories and memories every time they spoke. He was their number one fan, and always encouraged them to live life to the fullest.

In accordance with his wishes, Roger's ashes will be laid to rest with military honors at the  Omaha National Cemetery. A fitting tribute to his commitment to duty and honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to a Veterans Service Organization of the donor's choice, honoring Roger's enduring legacy of service and sacrifice.

As we bid farewell to Roger, let us not mourn the loss of his physical presence but instead celebrate a life lived to the fullest. His legacy of laughter, love, and curiosity will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will forever ripple through the lives of all who had the privilege of calling him friend, family, or simply, Roger.

We will miss the countless moments of joy and laughter shared in his company, his wisdom, thoughtful words, funny jokes, and his endless love and support. His love was a guiding force in our lives, a beacon of hope and comfort that will be sorely missed.

Interment of ashes with military honors will be at Omaha National Cemetery 14250 Schram Rd. Omaha, NE, May 7th at 11:00am. Reception to follow at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 780 Pinnacle Drive, Papillion, NE 68046.
