Robert "Bob" Gibson Ernst, 80, passed away suddenly at his home in Lee's Summit, MO on March 4, 2023. He was born in Orange, New Jersey on October 13, 1942 to parents Goswin Carl and Elizabeth Kennedy Ernst. Bob grew up in Smoke Rise, New Jersey along with his older brother, George and younger brother, William "Bill" Ernst. His love for the outdoors began in his childhood where he spent many hours fishing with his brothers. Eventually, as he became older he grew to love pheasant and quail hunting and watching his dogs work in the field. He was an avid golfer, entering many tournaments. His children enjoyed many fishing, hunting and golf outings with him. His love for his children was also expressed through many wonderful meals, such as his famous sauerbraten, potato balls and red cabbage Christmas dinner, complete with eggnog, as well as thoughtful gifts, especially the candy he gave to his grandchildren on every occasion (he was called "Candy Grandpa") and his incessant need to tease. Bob worked hard all of his life. He taught his children to have respect and pride in their work, to always try their best, to be honest, and to enjoy life and be happy. He is survived by his five children, Bill Ernst, Lisa (Roger) Steiner, Julie (Teresa) Ernst, Robert Ernst, Matthew (Linda) Ernst, eleven beloved grandchildren, three great grandchildren, as well as brother, Bill Ernst and family and his sister-in-law, Alberta Ernst and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George, and his former wife, Mary Carol Ernst. In honor of our father and in accordance with his wishes, we will celebrate his life with a gathering for family and friends. His celebration will be held at 6 pm, on April 1st at WinterStone Golf Course in Independence, MO. His parting words to his children were also the way he lived his life: "Do your best and enjoy the journey…. Pop. " In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to any animal shelter.
