Robert Wesley Ellis III, affectionately known as "Skeetz" and "Dah," passed away on June 3, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 62. Born on March 8, 1963, in Wichita, Kansas, he was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Robert's journey began in Wichita, where he was baptized and later received his First Communion at Queen of the Holy Rosary in Overland Park. He graduated from The Loretto School of Kansas City, Missouri, in 1981 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Recreation from The University of Kansas in 1991.
He embarked on a diverse career that spanned several locations and roles. His early work at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver and Winter Park ski resort services laid the foundation for a life of adventure. Robert worked at the Armed Forces Recreation base in Berchtesgaden and Lake Chiemsee, Germany, as a ski and scuba instructor. Returning to the United States, he was a waiter at the Plaza III on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, and later at Lakemary Center in Paola, Kansas, as Recreation/Aquatics Director and Residential Services Director.
For 24 years, Robert dedicated his skills to Kansas City Procter & Gamble, where he excelled in various capacities, including C&I, Surfactants, and Safety. He was also a co-founding member of R & C Apartments, LLC, where he, his wife, and children managed rental properties with care and dedication.
Robert's interests were as varied as his career. He was an avid fan of KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs, and he found joy in furniture refinishing and exploring estate sales. Family ski trips to Colorado and beach vacations to Florida were cherished traditions, as was the memorable Ellis European trip in 2016 to Italy, Germany, and France. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed landscape gardening, scuba diving, and golfing with his Poppa Bob and Uncle John.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles & Bernice Miller, and Robert W. Ellis Sr. and Mildred Ellis, along with his mother, Judith Ellis, his father-in-law, Wilbur Young, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his nephew Tommy McIntyre, Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl Ellis, and their daughters, Elizabeth and twins Isabel & Sophia Ellis. He is also survived by his father, Robert (Bob) Ellis Jr., and wife Susan; his sisters, Sarah McIntyre and husband Tom, and Ann Michelle (Micki) Ellis; his nephews, Andrew McIntyre and Nicholas, who is also his godson, with wife Patricia and their children Jack & Abbi. His mother-in-law, Margie Young, and brother-in-law, Mark Young. His godmother, Mary Jo Husten, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins from both the Miller, Ellis, Unruh, and Young families, also mourn his passing.
Robert will be fondly remembered for his famous catchphrases, "Nicely done" and "Bonus Best Wishes to you." His childhood dog, Simon, who famously alerted his dad Bob to burglars in the garage, and he cherished his pets Samson (border collie), Ranger & Bear (golden retrievers), and cats Tora, Smoky Joe, Jello (nicknamed GunlapBunchu), and Walter.
