Obituary

Richard Keith Wetzel, born August 24, 1956, passed away on September 10, 2026, at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy for more than ten years, a chapter of his life that remained an important and meaningful part of his story.

He was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Rick shared more than three decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Cathy, whom he married on December 18, 1993. Cathy preceded him in death on April 18, 2026. Losing her only months before his own passing was an immense heartbreak, and his family finds comfort in believing that Rick and Cathy are together once again.

Family was at the center of Rick’s life. He was surrounded by people who loved him deeply and who will continue to carry his memory through the stories, traditions, laughter, and moments they shared together.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cathy, and his mother, Jean Wetzel.

He is survived by his father, Dick Wetzel; his brother, David Wetzel; and his sister, Suzanne Wetzel.

He is also survived by his children and stepchildren: Andy Jackson and his wife, Amanda; Jamie Crespo and her husband, Luis; Richard Wetzel and his wife, Amy; and Erin Wetzel, as well as his grandchildren and extended family.

Rick will be remembered for his gentle, kind, and compassionate nature. He was deeply selfless and consistently put the needs of others before his own. He found happiness in the simple joys of life. He loved the sea and the peace of walking along the shore. A traveler at heart, Rick often reminisced about the places he experienced during his years in the Navy, and he could frequently be found immersed in one of his beloved fantasy books.

In the final chapter of his life, Rick faced significant health challenges with remarkable strength and perseverance. He was a devoted Christian, and his faith brought him comfort and peace throughout his life and during his final days.

Rick’s family is deeply grateful to the caregivers, medical professionals, friends, and loved ones who supported and cared for him throughout his illness.

Details regarding a memorial or celebration of Rick’s life will be shared with family and friends as arrangements are made.

May Rick rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Cathy.
