Richard (Rick) Dutzel, 61, passed away July 8, 2023, surrounded by family after a 6-month battle withMDS. Born January 16, 1962, in Kansas City, MO to Leonard and Ruth Dutzel; he was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Odessa, Missouri, graduated from Odessa High School in 1980, and attended Central Missouri State University. After high school, Rick married Debbie Daugherty and had 2 children - Jeff and Ranae. In 2009, Rick married his wife Heather in which he gained a step-daughter June Belew. Rick had a passion for woodworking and crafted many projects. Whether creating toys for his grandkids or doing home improvement projects, he had a love of building. He was active in Boy Scouts for 25 years serving in numerous leadership roles. In 2017 Rick and Heather moved to Conway, SC to retire after a 30-year career with the IRS. While in South Carolina, Rick played on a senior softball league, visited all 47 South Carolina state parks, and enjoyed time at the beach. During his battle with cancer, Rick and Heather moved back to Kansas City, MO to be with family. He was a fighter and fought until the very end. Rick is survived by his wife, Heather; son Jeff (Andrew); daughter Ranae Jack (James); daughter June Belew (Emily) and two grandchildren Earl and RaeLynn Jack. A celebration of life and BBQ will be held for friends and family on July 23, 2023; at Pink Hill Park in BlueSprings, shelter 4 from 12:00-3:00.
