Obituary

Randy Bruce Gabbert, 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on September 10, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health System, surrounded by his siblings.

He was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Roy and Betty Gabbert. Randy attended Wyandotte High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1966 to 1970, during the Vietnam War.

Randy loved watching and playing sports. For many years, he played goalie in recreational hockey and first base on a softball team made up of family and friends.

Randy loved listening to music and writing music and poetry. He was also active in the Bible study at Ignite Medical Resort.

Randy is survived by his siblings, Dan Gabbert (Tandy), Sharon Taylor (Dallas), Karen Stanard (Larry), and Roy “Chip” Gabbert (Amy); he is also survived by his daughters, Lynn Labrie (Walter), Christine Gabbert, and Sherri Gabbert; his step-sons, Mike Lumby (Janet) and Matt Lumby (Maureen); 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Randy’s beloved wife, Beverly, passed away shortly after his death.

Plans for a Celebration of Life will be announced later.
