Fletcher
Feb 23, 1938 — Aug 25, 2024
Nancy Sue Fletcher, aged 86, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on February 23, 1938, in Chanute, Kansas, Nancy lived a life full of love, passion, and dedication to her family and interests. Nancy lived life her way.
Nancy was a loving mother and homemaker whose spicy personality touched everyone who knew her. She was the devoted wife of Michael J. Fletcher, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in January 2016. Their love story spanned an incredible 59 years. Together, they shared a beautifully rich life spending most of their lives in their beloved home state of Kansas but also living 15 wonderful years at Stoneybrook Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. While there, they formed cherished friendships and enjoyed their mutual love for golf. Their adventures took them on vacations to Banff, Paris, Normandy, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, and Scottsdale creating memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.
Nancy and Mike were truly remarkable individuals. They adopted all three of their children, demonstrating that raising another person's child is one of the most profound acts of love and generosity. Their love knew no bounds, extending to their eight cherished grandchildren: Alex, Alea, Brandon, Emily, Matthew, Rachel, Kate, and Grace.
Nancy's love for golf was well-known and celebrated. She excelled at the game, and deeply loved her father, Lief Nelson, for teaching her the game at Chanute Country Club. She conquered every course she played with her rhythmic swing and fairway seeking drives. She was a golf champion at all of courses in which she belonged. This included Brookridge Country Club in Overland Park, Shadow Glen Country Club in Olathe, and Stoneybrook Country Club in Sarasota, Florida
Her zest for life extended to every Kansas sports team. She was an ardent supporter of the Kansas Jayhawks Basketball team and an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.
The people at Brookdale Senior Living embraced Nancy and her feisty spirit, where she reconnected with old friends and forged new bonds. She eagerly participated in the many activities Brookdale offered, including singing in the choir, playing Bridge and Poker, enjoying Mahjong, and taking part in water aerobics.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Fletcher, her sister Carol Goodburn, and her brother Larry Nelson. She is survived by her three children: Keith Nelson Fletcher (born February 28, 1964), David Charles Fletcher (born December 28, 1965), and Karen Elizabeth Fletcher (born October 11, 1970).
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Brookdale Overland Park on Saturday August 31st, at 6101 W 119th St, Overland Park, KS 66209, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
