Michael
Ronan
Feb 11, 1949 — Dec 30, 2023
Michael Thomas Ronan, a lifelong area resident, passed away December 30, 2023 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
Michael was born February 11, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas, the second of seven children to Thomas and Inez Ronan. He was devoted to his parents throughout their lives. He and his siblings shared an amazing bond, and the family was a three-time grand prize winner at the Kansas City Saint Patrick's Day Parade (with Michael driving the truck).
Michael was an avid baseball player as a child. He also loved playing billiards with friends during his youth and continuing into later life. He made some of his best friends through his love of golf, and was a longtime member at Wolf Creek.
He enlisted in the United States Army at age 18, and spent much of his service time in the Korean Demilitarized Zone working as a decoder and patrolling the area near the Military Demarcation Line between North Korea and South Korea.
After his proud military service, Michael began a career in the roofing industry. He owned Ronan's Roofing for more than 50 years. He was a member of Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kan., where he was an active member of The Men of Nativity. He was a humble servant of God who attended Mass daily.
Michael was a proud father to son Chris Ronan (wife Rachel), daughter Candice Baumgardner (husband Roland), son Cary Ronan (wife Ali), and son Corey Ronan. He dearly loved his grandchildren Gwyneth Baumgardner, Avery Baumgardner, Ronan Baumgardner, and Elise Baumgardner. He is also survived by beloved sisters Nancy Ronan, Donna Hoeper (husband Gary), Kathy O'Toole (husband John), Maureen Dierkes (husband Bill), Paula Ronan, and brother Joe Ronan (wife Teresa), as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kan., where visitation will be held at 10 a.m. A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Basehor, Kan.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the caring staff at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the VA Kansas City Healthcare System.
