Obituary

Michael James "Mike" Prusik, born on January 30, 1964 in Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on October 15, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 60.

Mike was a man who lived life with an open heart and a creative spirit. After graduating from Chapman District High School in 1982, he pursued higher education at Kansas State University. His career took him to various corners of Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked as a bartender, sharing stories and laughter with countless patrons. He also lent his artistic talents to the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, working as a dresser and contributing to the vibrant local arts scene.

An avid collector, Mike had a unique appreciation for the world around him. He was particularly fond of collecting vinyl records, with a special passion for classic 50's and 60's Latin music. Mike also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting for morel mushrooms. His greatest joy, however, came from the time spent with his cherished friends, with whom he shared countless adventures and memories.

Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles C. Prusik; maternal grandparents, Victor Schaffer and Katherine Schaffer; and his beloved parents, Charles J. Prusik and Mary K. Prusik. His legacy is carried on by his loving family: his brother, Terrance C. Prusik and wife Cynthia of Olathe, Kansas; niece Sara Hall and husband Tyler, along with their daughter Ella Maya, of Kansas City, Kansas; nephews Mckinnon C. Prusik and Michael E. Prusik of Olathe, Kansas; and numerous caring aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mike was a loyal friend to many, known for his warmth, humor, and unique perspective on life. He always marched to the beat of his own drum—and sometimes even danced to it. An artist at heart, Mike leaves behind a world that is a little more vibrant for having known him. Though he will be greatly missed by his family and friends, his spirit will forever inspire a smile, a laugh, or perhaps just a little extra mischief.

Services for Mike will be announced soon, with details available on Facebook. His family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate a life well-lived, and a man who touched so many with his kindness and creativity.
