Obituary

Lloyd P. Hiatt Jr., lover of life and all things technology, logged out for the last time on September 27, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on April 20, 1957, in North Ridge,California, Lloyd brought warmth, wit, and a touch of grumpiness to everyone he encountered—whether in person or through the soothing sounds of his voice on theother end of a support call.

Lloyd's professional journey was as varied as it was entertaining. He served proudly in the US Navy, navigated the open roads as a truck driver, and found his calling as the voice of calm and reason at the Command and General Staff College Lifelong Learning Center's Virtual Support Desk. His boss, Jake, remarked that Lloyd's dulcet tones became synonymous with the team's customer service, a role he tackled with respect, professionalism, and just the right amount of endearing grumpiness.

At the start of his tech career, Lloyd cut an imposing figure—a "huge and powerful man" as his colleagues fondly recalled. But even as his health waned under the weight of Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis, Lloyd possessed a spirit that refused to be diminished. He spent his days solving problems and bringing joy to soldiers, officers, and civilians alike, never losing the sense of humor that endeared him to so many.

An avid gamer outside of work, Lloyd applied the same dedication to leveling up in life as he did in his virtual worlds. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, roles he cherished above all else. Survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jeannette Hiatt of Lansing, Kansas, he leaves behind a robust family tree: brothers Alan (Candy) of Wisconsin, Randy (Joann) of Missouri, Charles (Kyra) of Indiana, and Steven (Keri) of KS; children Emilio "Peet" (Traci) Valdovinos of Maryville, Missouri, Shawnna (Steve) Villalpando of Mesquite, Texas, Rick (Melissa) Land of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Michell Payne of Lansing, Kansas; and a legacy of 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his love for life, gaming, and perhaps a bit of his well-known grumpiness.

Lloyd now joins his parents, Lloyd P. Hiatt Sr. and Colleen Hiatt, and his brother Timothy Hiatt, in the great beyond, where servers never crash, and every day is a high-score day.

A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Jarbalo United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM. Join us to remember a man who was larger than life and left us with a legacy of love, laughter, and a well-played game. Rest easy, Lloyd; you've leveled up one last time.
