Obituary

Julie Marie Seal, 75, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the University of Kansas Hospital after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 28, 1951, in Webster City, Iowa, toRobert L. Fleak and Mary Lu (Steinmaus).

Julie shared 55 loving years of marriage with her husband, Steve. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and friendship.

Julie dedicated many years of her life working as a caregiver in the teen-parent program at Central High School in Springfield, Missouri. She had a natural gift for caring for others and made a lasting difference in the lives of many young families.

She loved staying active and was often seen walking or jogging through her neighborhood or around thePhelps Grove area. Julie found great joy in simple pleasures—reading a good book, meeting friends for coffee, and spending an afternoon shopping together. Yardwork was also a cherished hobby, and she took great pride in planting and tending her flowers and shrubs.

More than anything, Julie treasured time with her four grandchildren—Jack Seal, Taylor Seal, Johnson Seal, and Jase Seal. They were the highlight of her life and brought her endless pride and happiness. Julie also adored her beloved dog, Bruce, and cat Oliver, who were constant companions and brought her great comfort and joy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Fleak, and her sister, Susan Fleak. Julie is survived by her loving mother, Mary Lu Fleak; her devoted husband, Steve; her sons, Andrew (Annie Spradling) and Matthew (Heather Terrill); her four cherished grandchildren; her sisters, Lori McLaughlin (Lon) and Paula Allison (Kelly); and several nieces and nephews.
