Obituary

Joan (JoAnn) Langley, (Jenkins) of Overland Park, KS passed away on January 25, 2024, at the age of 85 after several years of battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Winnie Jenkins and her brothers Robert and William Jenkins. JoAnn is survived by her son Ken Langley (Christine Burns), of Camdenton, MO, daughter Janet (Robert) Stogsdill of Webster, TX; her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

JoAnn remained a devoted, feisty mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. With a streak ofstubbornness tempered with fairness, JoAnn was protective of those she loved. JoAnn was thematriarch making sure the Jenkins family stayed in touch and arranged holiday get-togethers andbirthdays. JoAnn worked at PBI Gordan Chemical Company until she was 70. She enjoyed traveling as a sales rep. and visiting with clients in small towns across the Midwest.

JoAnn planned trips with girlfriends to England and around America. JoAnn touristed Greece andEurope with Janet when she and Bob lived there. After retirement, she moved to Texas to be close to her daughter but chose a retirement community near her granddaughter, Sarah, which was cool with Janet because they got to be good friends. JoAnn and Janet took yearly vacations together. One trip, when Joann belonged to Ancestry.com , they went to a lot of small towns in Kansas to find cemeteries to read Jenkins and Margrave's headstones!

JoAnn enjoyed watching and participating in sports. She would yell at the TV frequently while watching and always made chili or vegetable beef soup with cornbread to watch football on Sundays. When she was younger, Ken and Janet liked watching their mom play softball and bowl on a team with Aunt Mary Ann. Later, Ken, JoAnn, Uncle Bill, and Aunt Barbara were in a bowling league and were pretty good together. She also bowled in a traveling league and won some tournaments. The family learned to play golf and JoAnn got pretty good, won a couple of state championships, and continued to play with Ken through retirement.

JoAnn volunteered a lot throughout her life. She was a Candy Striper and enjoyed helping the patients and staff. She was Janet's Brownie and Girl Scout leader- and even sent her home for talking too much! She helped at the Food Pantry at her church. She managed community softball fields with her friend, Sybil. While in Texas, she volunteered at a thrift store through her church. Helping others made her happy.

A memorial will be held by Ken and Janet to reminisce and remember their mother with family andfriends on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Cascone's on North Oak Trafficway.
