Obituary

Jennifer Lynn Cox-Garcia, age 41, of Holcomb, Kansas, completed her journey home peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her cancer journey, she taught those around her the true meaning of living bravely and always with a smile. Known for her trademark sass, Jenn carried it proudly until the very end. She will forever remain a bright and guiding light to her family, friends, and loved ones.

Jenn was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2022 and initially given only two years to live. Determined to defy those odds, she battled through brain tumors, lung cancer, and eventually a tumor on her adrenal gland. Medically, she shouldn't have been able to live her life to the degree she did, yet she refused to give up her nursing job, dedicating herself to caring for her beloved residents. She worked tirelessly until six weeks before her passing, continuing to work throughout her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Jenn was committed to living her best life and never stopped creating memories with her children.

Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, on September 28, 1983, she was the daughter of the late Daniel A. Cox and the late Sue (Cox-Mullenix) Bradley. Jennifer had an extraordinary work ethic throughout her life. As a teenager, she worked as a waitress at Ranchito Café in Lakin, Kansas, before transitioning her passion to healthcare. Jenn attended schools in both Lakin and Deerfield, graduating from Deerfield High School in 2002. She worked for many years as a CNA in nursing homes across southwest Kansas before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Jenn graduated from Garden City Community College in 2019 with her nursing degree. Geriatrics was her passion; she treated her residents as family — celebrating their birthdays, offering special snacks and suppers, and spreading kindness in countless ways. The number of lives Jenn touched in her short years is immeasurable.

Jennifer was the quintessential sports mom who loved to travel and created countless magical memories with her five children: Jace, Jara, Jordan, Jevin, Jentri, and her fur-daughter, Bayleine. Jenn was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first granddaughter at the end of April, ready to embrace the cherished title of "Gigi." She dedicated endless hours to supporting her children's education, hobbies, and personal growth. Rarely missing any of their events, Jenn often chose to be present over resting between nursing shifts. An avid OU Sooners fan, she proudly recruited new fans at every opportunity (Horns Down, Boomer Sooner!!!).

Jenn is survived by her loving children: Jace (Emilee) Tweedy of Garden City, Kansas; Jara (Christion) Grant of Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Jordan, Jevin, and Jentri Garcia, all of the home in Holcomb, Kansas. She is also survived by her proud sisters: Pam Moreno (Anthony) Cordova of Deerfield, Kansas; Kimberly Grubbs and Tanya Luna, both of Lakin, Kansas; Nancy (Chris) Colosimo of Minneapolis, Kansas; Angela Brewer of Pittsburgh, Kansas; brother, David (Stanna) Cox of Wilson, Kansas; her stepfather, Norman Bradley of Lakin, Kansas; and numerous extended family members who adored her. Jenn especially enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews and spending precious time with them.

She is preceded in death by both parents, her maternal and paternal grandparents, nephew, Levi Cox, and her great-niece, Maverie Sue Meyers.

A time for sharing and celebrating Jenn's life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lakin High School Auditorium with Pastor Rafael Franco officiating.

To honor Jennifer's wishes, attendees are encouraged to reflect happily on her life and dress casually — wearing pink, her favorite color, if possible. Jenn desired a celebration filled with lots of flowers, and the family invites attendees to help fill the auditorium with bouquets. After the service, the flowers will be shared with the local nursing homes where Jenn worked, spreading joy to those she cared for so deeply.
