Jean Ellene Thompson, 86, of Overland Park, Kansas died on Monday, August 5th at Kansas University Medical Center following a bout of pneumonia and a decades-long battle with kidney disease.

She was born February 12, 1938, in Kansas City, MO, daughter of Adolf and Vera Johnson. Jean graduated from Southwest High School (Kansas City, MO) in 1956. For years she lived in Ohio where she raised her family and also worked as a secretary, before returning to live in Kansas in 2002.

Jean will be remembered for her laughter and optimistic outlook on life. Her hobbies included writing poetry, playing the organ, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, dancing, and in her younger years playing sports with her boys.

Jean is survived by two sons, Paul (Mary) of Fayetteville, NC and Dale (Sharon) of Columbus, OH, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren (with three more on the way). She is also survived by two sisters (Francelene Hernstrom of Overland Park, KS and Diane Cuccar of Kansas City, MO), one brother (Keith Johnson of Independence, MO) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date yet to be determined.
