Obituary

Jack "Jake" French, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on September 11, 1950, Jake was a man who cherished family and found joy in life's simple pleasures.

Jake's professional life was marked by a diverse career. He began his professional career with Southwestern Bell, where he was known for his dedication and hard work. Jake later transitioned into car sales and management, where his charismatic nature and passion for automobiles shone brightly. For a brief period, Jake ventured into entrepreneurship, owning a deck-building business that allowed him to express creativity and skill with his hands.

An avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, and the Kansas Jayhawks, Jake found camaraderie and excitement in cheering for his favorite teams. A lover of the outdoors, Jake enjoyed hunting and fishing, activities that brought peace and a deep connection to nature. Golf provided him with both relaxation and a challenge, while NASCAR racing fueled his love for speed and competition. Whether he was hunting, fishing, playing golf, or watching sports, Jake was happiest with a cold drink in hand and a trusty sidekick—preferably one that barked. Upon retirement, Jake spent several winters in Florida, which allowed him to enjoy warmer weather and escape the harsh Kansas winters.

Jake also found joy in cooking and grilling, passions that he shared generously with family and friends. His culinary skills were well-known and appreciated by all who had the pleasure of gathering around his table.

Jake was preceded in death by parents, Maggie (Turner) French and Jack French, Sr. He has also now reunited with beloved canine companions Casey, Tipper, Lilly, and Bandit. Jake's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife and life partner, Katie (McCombs) French, and his loving son, Jeremy French, and his sister Paula Morgan. His faithful dog, Pooh, remains a reminder of the warmth Jake brought into their home.

A service to honor Jake's life will be held on January 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Central Congregational Church, 5221 SW West Drive, Topeka, KS 66604. Jake will be fondly remembered for his generosity, helpfulness, and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
