Obituary

Henry Bridges-Simpson, a spirited and creative young soul, passed away on April 30, 2026, at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Born on a snowy day on December 5, 2008, Henry graced this world for 17 years, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Henry was a sophomore at Crossroads Academy, a loving community where he attended most of his schooling since kindergarten. Learning was not always easy for Henry, but he had so much love and support from the teachers and staff who grew him in so many more ways than just academically. A talented artist, he had several art shows over the last few years that celebrated his work, showcasing his passion for drawing and digital artwork. His love for art evolved over the years from drawing to photography and digital art expression. He found inspiration in artists like Walt Disney, with whom he shared a birthday. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Henry was granted a cherished trip with his family to Disneyland in 2024, fulfilling a dream and deepening his connection to the magic of Disney.

A member of the Kansas City community, Henry was also a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Current, attending as many women's soccer games as he could with his family. Over the last ten years, he found immense joy and camaraderie in his participation in Camp Systole each summer, a camp for children with congenital heart differences. Most recently, he found pride in his role as a Counselor in Training (CIT), a testament to his resilience and desire to give back to a community that had supported him throughout his life.

Henry's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He was known for his love of space travel as a child, skyscrapers and cityscapes, music and videography, and his keen eye for capturing the beauty of sunsets and nature. Known for his enthusiasm, he was always ready for gatherings with family and friends, sharing his passions and infectious energy.

He is survived by his loving mothers, Julia Bridges and Kathryn Simpson, and his brother, August Bridges-Simpson. His grandmother, Janette Rushing ("GoGo"), and her husband Doug Rushing, and his grandfather James (“Papap”) Bridges. His grandmother, Mary Beth Simpson ("GG"), and grandfather, Paul (“Papap”) Simpson. His uncle Jim Bridges, aunt Amanda Bridges, and cousins Nic Bridges, Jaycee Zeck, and Anna Bridges. His uncle Jon Bridges and cousin Phoenix Bridges. His uncle Jeremiah Bridges and uncle Omar Unzueta. His aunt Colleen Lafferty ("CoCo"), and uncle Bob Lafferty, and cousins Leo Lafferty, Finn Lafferty, Mae Lafferty, and Rose Lafferty. His uncle Tom Simpson, aunt Kristin Simpson, and cousins Max Simpson and Cameran Simpson. Henry was preceded in death most recently by his great-grandmother, Anna Mae Dolan.

The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate team at Children’s Mercy, who cared for Henry from infancy through his final days. Many providers were familiar to him through their time volunteering at Camp Systole, as well as providing compassionate care over the years on his medical team. His life, though brief, was filled with joy, creativity, and an inspiring resilience that touched everyone around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 30th, 2026, as an “open house” from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at “Room 1737” in Crossroads, Kansas City. Address is: 1737 McGee, Kansas City, MO 64108.
