Genevieve Babe
O'Kelley
Oct 13, 1932 — Jan 9, 2025
Genevieve (Cayce), (Babe) O'Kelley, 92, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at Kingswood Senior Living Community surrounded by family.
Cayce was born to Genevieve Ruth Duever Cayce and Charles Carter Cayce, Sr. on October 13, 1932, in Ferguson, Missouri. She was the third of four siblings and was lovingly nicknamed "Babe" by her family and called Aunt Babe by many nieces and nephews. Babe graduated from Ferguson High School in 1950. She met her husband, Pat O'Kelley, while they both worked at Ford Motor Corporation in St. Louis. They were married in 1956. Babe was a stay at home Mother to her 3 children and enjoyed sewing, being a Scout Mother, and purchasing and refinishing antiques.
Family vacations with their 3 children were another joy in her life….traveling in a camper they had purchased specifically for that purpose. There were many birthday parties and social gatherings with friends and neighbors at their home on 53rd Street in the "Irish Catholic Ghetto." In 1968 she started her career as a Realtor with the Eugene D. Brown company and took the name Cayce O'Kelley as her professional business name. She subsequently became the first National Relocation Director for Hardin Stockton Realtors and then Coldwell Banker Real Estate after they purchased Hardin Stockton Realtors. She enjoyed a long successful career in Real Estate. Upon retiring, Mom and Dad purchased a motor home and traveled the United States full time visiting National Parks, "snowbird cities" and many friends and relatives. They filmed their many travels and enjoyed meeting new people everywhere they went. They had many wonderful adventures and when it was time to get off the road, they returned to Kansas City to purchase a home and settle into their later years. They enjoyed their 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, volunteering, playing bridge, and golf, and socializing with neighbors. Mom also enjoyed painting watercolors and took classes to learn "clowning." She talked a couple of friends into doing it with her and she thoroughly enjoyed entertaining children and adults. After Dad passed, Mom enjoyed her support groups and freely shared her experience, strength, and hope with other members who were struggling. She was also a devout follower of her Catholic faith. Mom moved to Kingswood Retirement Living Community in 2017.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Kingswood and Interim Hospice for their care and support during her last years. Mom, we thank you for all the ways you showed us how you loved us with your faith, work, and dedication to your family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Patrick O'Kelley in 2009, parents, sister, Caroline Cayce Jagiello Forman, and brother, Charles Carter Cayce, Jr. She is survived by one sister, Frances Cayce Capra of Ballwin, Missouri, and her three children: Rebecca (Becky) O'Kelley, Shaun O'Kelley, Pat O'Kelley and wife Robbi O'Kelley. In addition, Mom loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Christopher O'Kelley, Danielle O'Kelley, April O'Kelley, David O'Kelley, Shannon O'Kelley, Ashton O'Kelley, Dillon O'Kelley (Jess) and Erin O'Kelley (Jordan Montano). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
