Obituary

Fernand Roy, of Shawnee, Kansas entered into eternal rest on November 17, 2011, at home, under the care of St. Luke's Hospice. He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on July 25, 1925, the oldest child of Alphonse and Bernardette Roy. He was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended Saint Thomas Aquinas grammar school and Cathedral High School. He began his lifetime employment with Western Auto Supply Company in 1941 as a stockman in the company's Springfield warehouse. His career spanned fifty-four years with the company in inventory control, warehouse and purchasing management positions in Taunton, Massachusetts, Baltimore, Maryland and finally to corporate headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Following his retirement, he was a volunteer with the Sisters Servants of Mary's ministry and with St. Joseph's Parish. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children and later his brother, especially to Cape Cod, Quebec, and France. His hobbies included dancing; especially polkas, French Canadian reels, and zydeco, woodworking, genealogy, and sampling Russell Stover chocolate. He was married to Claire deJordy Roy for forty-five years until her passing in 1994. He leaves three children, Andrea Roy and her husband Richard Liguori of Belmont, Massachusetts, David Roy of Shawnee Kansas, and Paul Roy and his wife Samantha of Merriam, Kansas, and two grandchildren, Jessica Roy of Shawnee, Kansas and Gabriel Roy Liguori of Belmont, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind two sisters Beatrice Turcotte and her husband Andy and Rita Massey and husband Robert all of Springfield, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Raphael Roy of Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Visitation will be on Tuesday November 22 at 9:30am at St. Joseph Church 11311 Johnson Drive Shawnee followed by a Memorial Mass at the church. His family will receive friends at Grisé Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, Massachusetts 01013, on Wednesday November 30 from 4pm to 7pm. A visitation will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 am Thursday December 1. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St. Chicopee, Massachusetts will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30am with interment at St. Rose de Lima Cemetery in Chicopee, Massachusetts. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters Servants of the Sick, 800 North 18th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66102, Attention Mother Claudia.
