A Life Well Lived
Eleanor Joan Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on May 15th, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on December 19, 1944, in Seneca, Kansas, she was the cherished daughter of the late Oliver and Thelma Troughton.
A Journey of Love and Dedication
Eleanor grew up in Seneca with her four siblings: Kent, Doug, Jane, and Marilyn. Her passion for learning and nurturing those around her inspired her to earn a degree in Education from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. After graduating, Eleanor dedicated over thirty years to shaping young minds, serving as a beloved teacher in both the United States (Kansas and Florida) and Saudi Arabia.
Her kindness, patience, and commitment to her students left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Family and Friends
Eleanor married her soulmate, Roger Leroy Johnson, and together they created a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure. She is survived by her three children: Sidney (and his wife Jennifer) Matthews. Sheila (and her husband David) Pousa, and Ryan (and his wife Nitza) Johnson. Her legacy continues through her five treasured grandchildren: Christopher and Jacob Matthews, Justin and Rusty McCumber, and Rhys Johnson.
Eleanor also held a special place in her heart for her step-grandchildren: Michael, Jeremy, and Holly Carson from Sidney and Jennifer’s family, as well as David and Edwin Pousa from Sheila and David’s side.
She leaves behind her dear siblings, Doug Troughton and Marilyn Swortwood, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends who felt like family. Her home was always a welcoming haven, embracing all who entered with warmth.
A Heart Full of Passion
Eleanor's zest for life radiated through her many hobbies and passions. An avid gardener, she found peace and joy in the splendor of her blooming flowers. With a curious mind and an open heart, she loved to travel and sail with her husband, Roger, while relishing the adventures of exploring new places and cherishing her returns to family and friends.
A Lasting Legacy
Eleanor will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to bettering the world around her. Her legacy embodies love, kindness, and an unshakeable belief in the goodness of people.
Celebration of Life
Eleanor Joan Johnson's life exemplified love, compassion, and resilience. She will always be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Although her absence will be profoundly felt, her spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all whose lives she touched. On June 16th, 2025, at 1:30 pm, we will hold the interment of both her and Roger’s ashes, honoring their wishes. The interment and committal services will take place at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, located at 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
