Dorothea Dotty
Jordan
Dec 9, 1935 — Sep 11, 2025
On September 11, 2025, Dorothea Rozan (Hart) Jordan (89) was reunited with her loving husband. Dotty, as she was known to family and friends, died peacefully at her home. Dotty was born on December 9th in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Edmund and Ruth Hart. She attended Mount St. Mary’s Academy from first through 12th grade. After graduation, Dotty moved to New Orleans to attend St. Mary’s Dominican College for 2 years. Dotty was accepted to Parsons School of Design in New York, but due to distance and finances, chose to attend The Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1959, Dotty graduated with a BFA in Interior Design and a minor in Graphic Arts.
While working at Great Western Paint Company, Dotty met the love of her life, Donald Jordan, and was married on June 9, 1962, in Little Rock, Arkansas. They made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, where they welcomed their daughter, Denise, in 1964. Dotty’s career reflected her love of design; three years at Duff & Repp Designer Gallery, 14 years with Leiters Designer Fabrics, and 26 years at Bailey’s Designer Showroom.
While working full-time, Dotty always put family first. She was a gourmet cook, even on the yearly camping trips. She could make an exceptional meal on a camp stove or over a campfire. She learned to sew from her grandmother and became a skilled seamstress, making almost all of her and her daughters' clothes. She shared this talent by teaching two of her nieces, although sadly, her daughter did not gain this specific talent from her. However, she and her daughter shared a great many talents, including a love for music, art, and history.
Dotty was a lifelong Arkansas Razorback fan, a Chiefs season ticket holder for over 30 years, a member at the Nelson Atkins Museum for many decades, a 30 year Starlight ticket holder, and worked in the interior design industry until she was 78. This was remarkable as she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in her early 70’s. Her husband preceded her in death in 2021. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise (Kevin) Brown of Prairie Village, Kansas; sister Kathy (Harry)Cumnock of Little Rock, Arkansas, and other extended family too numerous to list. While she will be missed, it was a life well-lived, and her positive impact on those around her made us better.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pegasus Landing and Interim Hospice for their support in Dotty’s final weeks.
A celebration of life will be planned with her Assisted Living facility family of the last three and a half years, who made her final years full of life, laughter, activities, and friendship. Dorothea and Donald have been cremated and will be interred together at Calvery Cemetary in Kansas City, Missouri, with Donald’s parents.
