Donald Bryan McCaul, 92, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away January 21st, 2017. Memorial Service will be at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd. , Prairie Village, KS on Saturday, February 4th, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Village Church Endowment Fund. Don was born in 1924 to Hugh and Iva McCaul, in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Westport High School in 1941, and after attending Junior College in Kansas City, he served in the Army Air Corp. He used the GI Bill to attend the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1947. After college, Don worked for Black and Veatch, and Lutz and May Consulting Engineers, and was a partner in May Engineering, retiring in 1992. Don was a devoted and loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed camping vacations and being active in his children's sporting activities. Tennis was his favorite hobby, and he played for many years at Leawood Country Club. He played in high school, and often at the Plaza tennis courts, where in 1949 he and a friend asked two women on the next court to join them in mixed doubles. He married Carolyn the next year, in 1950, and they celebrated their 67th anniversary on January 13th, 2017. Don also enjoyed bridge, and served his church as a Shepherd Deacon. Vacations were spent camping in Colorado with family and friends, and for 25 years he and Carolyn spent up to 6 weeks in paradise (Sanibel Island, Florida), with many friends from Leawood and his sister Nancy Johnson and sister's husband Duane Johnson. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Heller McCaul; children, Kevin (and Harriette) McCaul of Fargo, North Dakota, Connie Melhuse of Chicago, Illinois, and Bryan (and Susan) McCaul of Alamo, California; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
