Dennis Dwight Darr, 78, of Mission, Kan. , went to be with the Lord on Jan. 6, 2022. Born March 14, 1943 to James J. Darr and Hortense (Shackelford) Darr, he was raised in Marceline, Mo. , where he enjoyed membership at the local country club and building a treehouse in his backyard. He often spent happy times with both sets of grandparents who lived nearby. In high school, he played the saxophone and lettered in football. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, Central Missouri State College and graduated from UMKC with a degree in business administration in 1983. After moving to Kansas City for his father's job with the Santa Fe Railroad, Dennis joined the Air Force Reserves in 1965 and became an aircraft electrician stationed at Richards-Gebaur AFB. He maintained a fascination for trains and planes throughout his life. After fulfilling his active duty time, he began working as a draftsman. "This, I thoroughly enjoyed," he said. The majority of his career was spent as a planner for KCP&L, where he was most fulfilled on days working in the field. Dennis loved yard work and gardening at home, always keeping his property neat and beautiful. He married Gloria Jean Dallas on September 1, 1972, and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Together, they enjoyed taking day trips on weekends and making their home a comfortable place. A daughter, Andrea, was born in 1978. They liked bike riding, playing tennis, and spending a hot summer's day at Oceans of Fun. Dennis was a private man but deeply loved those around him. He had an affinity for coastal-themed t-shirts and winter coats (often worn together); leather satchels and tiny drawers for organizing. His desk was never without graph paper and post-it notes, filled with calculations in his architectural hand. Many times he'd stick a note of love and appreciation on the fridge for Gloria to find. He is survived by his beloved wife, daughter, and son-in-law, Michael Gekas, and two granddaughters, Sophie and Tessa. They will always remember spending time outside with him and sitting on his lap at his desk, coloring and crafting. Service A service will be held Thursday, Jan. 13, at 2 p. m. at Mission Road Bible Church, 7820 Mission Road, in Prairie Village, Kan.
