Obituary

Deborah Kay Christy, affectionately known as Debby, has taken her final bow at the age of 74. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on October 15, 1949, Debby drew her last breath in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 2, 2024, after putting up a valiant fight against cancer.

Debby was a home daycare provider for 30 years, mastering the art of wrangling toddlers and molding young minds with her fun-loving, creative spirit. She had a knack for turning chaos into creativity, ensuring every child under her care felt like they were part of her extended family. She had a love for teaching—and an even better love for cooking, often whipping up meals that were comforting and delicious.

Known for her love of movies, needlework, puzzles, bible study, reading, and the occasional water skiing adventure, Debby never met a hobby she didn't like (or excel at). Her home was a haven of warmth and creativity, a place where laughter echoed and curiosity reigned supreme. Preceded in death by her mother Emilee Adams, father Rose Adams, sister Betty Lou, and brothers Ralph, Bobby, and Junior, Debby leaves behind a family tree that she watered with love and nurtured with care. If there's a family reunion in heaven, you can bet they're having a grand time together.

She leaves behind a family that adored her, including her daughter Michelle Kay Chang and son-in-law Joe Chang, son Jonathon Michael Watson, son Todd Elliott Ward, and daughter-in-law Laura Ward. Her granddaughters Krista Foster, Kara Ward, Kelsey Smith, Kendra Ward, Isabella Chang, Chloe Chang, and grandson Spencer Watson will carry forward her legacy of joy and creativity. Additionally, she is survived by her nine great-grandchildren, who will undoubtedly hear tales of their great-grandma's adventures and loving spirit for years to come.

To honor Debby's life and legacy, a Celebration of Life will be held at Shawnee Mission Park, shelter 3, on July 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Come prepared to share stories, laugh, maybe cry a little, and celebrate a woman who made an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Debby, your wit, wisdom, and heartfelt laughter will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all who knew you. You've left us with countless memories and an irreplaceable piece of our hearts. Rest well, dear Debby; heaven just became a lot more fun.
