Obituary

Darrell E. Westlin, 93, Kansas City, Kansas, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on January 28, 2014. Darrell was born in Galva, Illinois, the middle child of seven children and served in both the Canadian and US Army in World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, as a wounded combat veteran. After military service he attended the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. While practicing chiropractic medicine in the Kansas City area, he still continued his job as a meat cutter, a craft he learned as a young boy. Darrell loved to dance, fish, sing karaoke and play card and board games. He is survived by his wife, Judy and his children; Suzanne Westlin, David Westlin, Robin Westlin, Lisa Westlin, Jackie Hartnett, Candy Grooms, Tammy Ellison, Mary Grantham, Tina Vannest, and step-son, Lance Custer and step-daughter, Gina Brown. Darrell was also a kind and loving grandfather to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and is great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 88th and Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will take place in the spring at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Darrell's name may be made to Aseracare Hospice, 3320 Clinton Parkway, Suite 120, Lawrence, KS 66047 or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. .
