Cristy Barnes Smith, 38, of Independence, Missouri, passed away January 16, 2013 at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was born February 27, 1974 in Independence, daughter of Timothy and Diana Barnes. Cristy graduated from Lee's Summit High School in 1992. She was a HUGE KU Basketball fan and was employed by Internal Revenue Service. Cristy was Past Honored Queen of Bethel 24 of Job's Daughters International of Lee's Summit, MO. Her term was from June-December 1991. The most important part of her life was being a loving and caring mother to her daughters. She is survived by her parents, two daughters, Bailey Barnes and Hayley Smith, a brother, Jay Barnes, her sister, Rhonda Stephens, her grandmother, Phyllis Tittle and many family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 11811 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, www. shrinershospitalsforchildren. org. Cristy's daughters ask that everyone attending the service please wear an article of purple clothing. The family expresses their deep appreciation for the loving care given to Cristy by the entire staff at the Kansas City Hospice House. They also appreciate the care and concern provided to Cristy by Amy Shelton, Cristy's best friend.
