Obituary

Burnie Hiett, 86, passed away on April 30, 2016. A visitation will be at 10:00 am, followed by a "Celebration of Life" service at 11:00 am at Southwoods Christian Church, 16110 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Burnie was born August 24, 1929 in Ottawa, Kansas to Clarence Burnie and Frieda Martha (Spaethe) Hiett. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1947 and earned a B. S. in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State College in 1951. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed at Midwest Research Institute, and held Engineering Management Positions at KW-Dart Truck Company, Rickel Manufacturing, Bryan Corporation, and Snorkel Fire Service Division. While working, he earned a M. S. in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas University. As part of his work he traveled the world extensively, and thoroughly enjoyed designing special equipment. He is survived by his wife the "Love of His Life", Betty (Goble), and they enjoyed 63 wonderful years together serving Jesus Christ. Additional survivors are son, Stephen Hiett; daughter, Laura and her husband, Richard Smith; three granddaughters, Heather and husband Boyd Barker, Lindsay and husband Tony Ceballos, and Rebecca Smith. He also had four great-grandchildren: Abigail Ceballos, David Ceballos, Grace Barker, and Caleb Barker; and a sister, Carolyn Oelschlaeger and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Southwoods Christian Church or a charity of choice.
