Obituary

Christy was the second of seven children born to Rodney and Georgiana (Kraus) Stewart in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from St. Theresa Academy and St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas with a degree in English. Upon graduation she embarked on an extended road trip/adventure with her friend, Gloria. They explored Maine, ending up in Boston, where Christy worked at Boston University as an editorial assistant. It was in Boston where Christy and future husband, Dennis Marsh, began a love affair that blossomed into 47 years of marriage, 3 kids, and, so far, 1 grand-daughter. Upon returning to Kansas City in 1972, Christy continued her working life as a Social Services Case Worker for the State of Missouri. During this time Christy also worked in the Child Abuse Department, where she rescued children from abusive situations and helped them find healthy, stable homes. Christy went on to begin her long and successful career as a reporter and editor for many publications in the Kansas City area, including The Lenexa News, Sun Publications and The Kansas City Star. She spent countless hours covering local news in her hometown, Lenexa, Kansas. She became very involved in community events and projects. For her service to the community she was inducted into the Lenexa Volunteer Hall of Fame and awarded the Key to the City of Lenexa. Along the way Christy became involved in The International Wine and Food Society in the Kansas City Branch, where she served as President. Her work with the IWFS culminated in Christy becoming Executive Director of 80 branches encompassing North and South America. Christy's association with IWFS became a 20-year career during which she traveled around the world, making friends wherever she went. And in addition to her already busy schedule, she helped husband Dennis run their family business, American Starbuck Furniture Company, supported her kids in a multitude of extra-curricular activities, and served as troop leader for both Brownies and Girl Scouts. Christy loved to read, travel, hang out at home with her beloved Golden Retriever, Rosie and watch movies. Her two favorites were Out of Africa and The Big Lebowski. Everyone who knew Christy knew exactly where she stood on important issues. She was an out-spoken advocate for equal rights. She was brave, strong and never backed down from a fight. You wanted her on your side.
