Obituary

Charles Pate, 91, of De Soto, Kansas passed away November 27, 2016. Charles was born in Springfield, MO where he met and married Grace Elizabeth Battenberg who preceded him in death in 1992. Charles and Grace had three children, Charlotte Hartung (Tom) De Soto; Charles T. Pate (Linda) of Maryland Heights, MO; and William G. Pate (Ruth) of Caney, KS. He is also survived by grandchildren Randy Thomas (Cynthia) Overland Park, KS, Brandon Marshall, Overland Park, Bradley Marshall, St. Louis, MO, Cody Lane Pate, Overland Park, Taylor Wright (Jesse) of Olympia, WA and Abigail Pate, Paola and four great grandchildren. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1947. Charles spent his entire working life involved in the automotive field, from a bare knuckle mechanic to Regional Service Manager for the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation. He also served as Truck Service Manager at Feld Chevrolet and retired from Jay Wolfe Chevrolet. He loved flying and sold a set of golf clubs to finance his quest. He received his pilot's license in 1947, but family and career called for his attention. In May 1999 at the age of 73 Charles completed all requirements and made a solo flight to renew his license. Charles moved from Olathe to Hillside Village in De Soto in March of this year where he made many lasting friendships. He was the Recording Secretary of their Resident's Council, a job he embraced and enjoyed very much. Charles was also preceded in death by Donna Pate in May 2016. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in Dad's memory. A private memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016.
