Charles (Charlie) Louis Guth passed away on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with vascular disease and dementia. Charles died peacefully at the age of 88. Charles was born on November 4th, 1933, to Louis and Erma (Devins) Guth, in Kansas City, MO, the oldest of three children. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1951. Charles enlisted in the U. S. Navy on March 31st, 1952. He served honorably as a medic, receiving the National Service Defense Medal. He met his loving wife of 67 years, Mary M. Peck, while attending the University of Missouri at Columbia. Upon graduation, the couple moved to Salina, KS, so Charles could pursue employment opportunities with JCPenney. In 1965, Charles began a financial career spanning over 30 years with Capitol Federal Savings and Loan. He managed the Shawnee Branch until his retirement in 1997. Retirement did not come easy to Charles; he returned to part-time work at Capitol Federal and ultimately worked at Price Chopper Rosanna Square, where he endeared himself to customers and staff alike. Charles was actively involved in the Optimist Club, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, the Korean War Veterans Association, and held a variety of church positions. Charles enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. He loved boating, trap-shooting, hunting, and fishing. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Sheralyn (Moises) Castro and Tracie (Pat) Murphy; son Jeffrey Guth; grandchildren, Rick Murphy, Stacie Kusters, Matthew Guth, Stephanie Castro-Rolfes, Katlyn McAuliffe, Gregory Castro; great grandchildren, Maddison Brogan, Evan Porter, Winston, Rosemary, and Mabel Murphy, Elizabeth and Mason Guth, Evie Grace and Josie Dee McAuliffe; sister Arlene Lasey. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, Jim Guth, granddaughter, Julia Marie Castro, and daughter-in-law, Andrea Guth. A special thank you to the staff at Vitas Hospice and Stratford Memory Care for their loving care and support during Charles' final days. Service The Memorial service will be at Blue Valley Baptist Church, 8925 W 151st Street, Overland Park, KS 66221 on Friday, July 8th, 2022 at 1pm. The family welcomes friends and relatives, and insists on no flowers.
