Carol (Stupka)
Huff
Sep 3, 1949 — May 3, 2026
Carol Suzanne (Stupka) Huff, 76, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, passed away on May 3, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. Known to all as Sue, she was born September 3, 1949, in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, to Ethel (Summerville) and Richard Stupka. She was the third of six children and the only daughter.
Although Sue worked as a bank teller and secretary for a healthcare specialty clinic for many years, her true career and dedication were to her local church, family, and friends. At Kearney First United Methodist Church, she faithfully supported missions to Haiti and the Tuesday morning women’s Bible study group. At home, all her actions were focused on building relationships through both the good and challenging times of life. She will be remembered for her love of God and compassion for people.
Sue leaves a legacy of treasured family traditions, such as using holiday cards the grandsons used to populate the “Christmas Story Tree,” being covered with icing after decorating gingerbread houses at Thanksgiving, and Easter egg hunts in the backyard. “Grandma Sue Rules” are famous for magically turning tear-inducing 4-backwards cards in Sorry into “whatever you need to get Home.”
Sue is survived by her children, Don Huff and Patty Sue (Jeffrey) Hicks, brothers: Mike, Jack, Keith, Ed Stupka, and former husband Don Huff. She has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Richard Stupka, her beloved Aunt Edy Rankin, her brother Mark, and her nephews Andy and Owen Stupka.
A memorial celebration service will be held on May 18, 2026, at Kearney First United Methodist Church, 1000 E State Route 92, Kearney, MO 64060. Visitation at 1:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Sue may be made to the LoveHaiti outreach of Kearney First United Methodist Church at https://kearneyfumc.churchcenter.com/giving/to/love-haiti or Monarch Hospice, 7451 Switzer Rd, STE 100, Shawnee Mission, KS 66203, who took such good care of Sue during her final months.
