Burris George Wilson, was born on December 16, 1933, in What Cheer, Iowa, and peacefully passed away on June 17, 2024, in Overland Park, Kansas. He lived a fulfilling life of 90 years, leaving a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Burris attended Thornburg High School, and soon after graduating in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and married his high school sweetheart Beverly Vail before being deployed overseas where he served as a radio operator during the Korean War. After Burris returned from Korea, he and Beverly were stationed at Warner Robins AFB in Georgia where Burris received several promotions and eventually retired from full-time military service in 1956 earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1957 Burris and Beverly moved to Overland Park, Kansas where Burris was hired as a foreman at the Bendix plant in Kansas City. While working full time, he pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree from UMKC and an MBA from Rockhurst College, which further enriched his knowledge and skills. In 1993 he retired as a Director from Bendix (then AlliedSignal, Inc.) after a 30-plus year career. His commitment to excellence and leadership inspired those around him, leaving a lasting impact on the people he touched.
In 1994 Burris and Beverly moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. There, Burris earned his real estate license and worked successfully in that field for several years. In 2019 Burris and Beverly returned to Overland Park to be closer to family. They resided in Park Meadows Senior Living where they developed several meaningful friendships. Burris is now reunited with Beverly, his beloved wife of 68 years, and his twin sister, Kathryn Greiner of Des Moines, Iowa, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving family and friends, including children Wendy (Greg) Abbott of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, David (Michele) Wilson of Shawnee, Kansas, Tricia (Lawson) Rener of Leawood, Kansas, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Burris will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, strong work ethic, and the love he shared with his family and friends. May his spirit continue to inspire those whose lives he touched, and may his memory bring comfort during this time of loss.
A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Church RCA in Overland Park, Kansas on Sunday, July 14th at 2:00 pm. An interment service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 10:30 am at Highlands Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Burris' honor to either Crossroads Church RCA, 10551 Quivira Rd., Shawnee Mission Kansas 66215 or The Salvation Army, PO Box 412577,Kansas City, Missouri 64141-2577.
