Bob (Hummer) D. Humiston August 1, 1937-July 3, 2020 On August 1, 1937, on a day when the temperature topped 108 degrees, Bob Humiston was born in Emporia, KS. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Northeast High School, Bob attended/graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in Biology. He married Donna in 1962 and they enjoyed almost 58 wondrous years of marriage. During a stint with the National Guard, Bob picked up culinary skills serving as a cook. He worked part time as a fireman for the Santa Fe Railroad before joining Shawnee Mission School District. Bob survived teaching 8th grade classes at Hillcrest (Westridge) Middle School for 37 years. Bob cherished time spent with family/friends. Many wonderful memories were made at Bob and Donna's vacation cabin and Pelican Beach Resort on Pelican Lake in north-central Minnesota. He enjoyed taking a dip in the crystal clear lake water, fishing with the family favorite gold bug fishing lure, searching the shore for Lake Superior agates, eating Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza or just relaxing at lakeside while enjoying a favorite beverage. Before heading out for a boating adventure, everyone always would seek Bob's opinion on the ever-changing weather conditions. In his "younger" days, he enjoyed collecting/trading gems/minerals with his brother-in-law. Oh, the stories those two could tell of their rock hunting adventures. Bob passed down his love of gem/minerals to his family as all are "addicted" to the "hunt" for the elusive agate. Bob enjoyed many decades of duck hunting with family and friends at Welda, KS. His most recent trip occurred in Nov, 2019. Two days after being released from hospital, he was back in the duck blind enjoying another successful hunting trip. He was a huge sports fan. During high school, Bob excelled in track activities and later in volleyball. His volleyball team was league champs for multiple consecutive years. He spent many an afternoon cheering on his favorite pro teams. Bob and several of his friends purchased season tickets during the Kansas City Chiefs inaugural season and retained their tickets for several decades. He was so happy when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, the Royals won the World Series or the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team won a National Championship! (Don't ask what happened to the transistor radio when the Jayhawks football team lost the Orange Bowl!) Recently, Bob was able to meet his cousin, Traci Daniels, for the first time. He was so thankful to have the opportunity to share family stories with her. While he always let the spotlight shine on others, Bob thoroughly enjoyed trying out new jokes he unearthed on his family and friends. His most recent joke was, "Think like a proton, be positive". Bob leaves his wife, Donna, of the home. Children; Roberta (Jerry) Judson and Jennifer (James) Goering, four grandchildren; Stephen (Annie) Montemayor, Kevin Montemayor, Daniel (Kendal) Goering and Emily Goering and a host of additional family members and friends. All will forever be blessed to have been loved by such a wonderful man. The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice for being so incredibly kind. Services Plans for a celebration of life will be made at a later date when it is safe for family/friends. Bob would like you to "please spend the time you would have taken to attend my funeral with your family and loved ones, especially your children and grandchildren. Let them know how much they mean to you while you are still able to do so. Thank you for your friendship while I was with you in this life. " Memorial Contributions Bob was a lifelong member of Ducks Unlimited. Donations in his memory may be made at https://www. ducks. org/Get-Involved/Memorial-Giving "I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. "
